Today’s review is a bit special. In celebration of the new LEGO Batman movie, my sister, partner and myself each purchased a different one of the tie-in kits and are sharing this blog space to tell you what we thought!

The sets all feature vehicles which appear in the movie and vary in size and price. The cheapest set is Catwoman Catcycle Chase, which includes the pieces to build a small street scene, the Catcycle, various accessories, and three minifigures: Batgirl, Robin and Catwoman.

The second largest of the sets is The Penguin Arctic Roller. This set is a lot more hefty, containing the necessary pieces to build the car and a small jet ski. It also comes with an umbrella and batarang accessories, and two minifigures: Batman and the Penguin.

The final set is The Joker Notorious Lowrider. This set simply contains the pieces necessary to build the car. It also comes with a variety of accessories and three minifigures: Batgirl, the Joker and Harley Quinn.

More details and photographs under the cut!

Y-Wing Starfighter

Suggested Age: 8-14
Pieces: 691
Casual Build Time: 3 hours
Dimensions: Y-Wing – over 2″ x 16″ x 7″ / Weapons Loader – over 3″ x 6″ x 2″
Brand: Star Wars

I decided to spend my birthday gift tokens this year on expanding my LEGO spaceship fleet. This time, I chose to add the Y-Wing Starfighter to my collection. While not as recognisable as the popular X-Wing, the Y-Wing first appears in the original Star Wars film and is best known as being piloted by Gold Leader during the strike on the Death Star. This particular model kit differs slightly as it’s based on the Y-Wings that appear in Rogue One.

The kit comes with all the pieces needed to make the Y-Wing and a small yellow Weapons Loader. The ship itself boasts an array of weapons, rotating guns, working landing gear and rotating turrets. It also comes with an astromech and four minifigures – Admiral Raddus, Moroff, a Y-Wing Pilot and a Stormtrooper.

LELE Bricks Raptor Escape

Suggested Age: 6-12
Pieces: 406
Casual Build Time: 2 hours
Brand: Dinosaur World

Following on from my Christmas review of Wilco’s Blox – a truly awful LEGO knock-off – I received a birthday gift of another rival brand. LELE Bricks is a Chinese brand that produces cheaper rip-offs of popular LEGO sets. Their Dinosaur World series bears more than a striking similarity to LEGO’s officially licensed Jurassic World brand, however as far as I can tell this particular set is not a direct rip-off as some of the others are.

I don’t have any box photos for you this time as my set just came in a plastic bag, however the kit contains the pieces to make a raptor enclosure and quad bike. It also includes two minifigures, two velociraptors, a chicken drumstick, a tranquilliser gun and a stick (or spear?) with a blue light on top of it.

Here are some better pictures of what I received:

Yellow Submarine

Suggested Age: 10+
Pieces: 553
Casual Build Time: 2.5 hours
Dimensions: Yellow Submarine – over 5″ x 9″ x 2″ / Submarine Display Stand – over 1″ x 4″ x 3″ / Minifigure Display Stand – over 4″ x 1″ x under 1″
Brand: Ideas

Once again, I return to the brilliant LEGO Ideas series to look at their most recent release. Really, this kit doesn’t need any introduction. It’s the iconic submarine featured in the 1968 animation of the same name. Even though I’m not a huge fan of the Beatles, I think almost everyone has fond memories of this film and as soon as I saw this kit I knew that I had to add it to my collection.

The set contains all of the pieces needed to make the Yellow Submarine and a stand with which to display it on. In addition, it comes with minifigures of the Beatles – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr- as well as a figure of Jeremy. The Beatles come complete with a selection of accessories from the film including the submarine motor, an apple and half a hole.

LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack

Suggested Age: 7-14
Pieces: 269
Casual Build Time: approximately 1 hour
Dimensions: Gateway – over 6″ x 7″ x 4″ / Batmobile – over 1″ x 2″ x 1″
Brand: Dimensions

Today’s review is for something a little different. One of my Christmas presents this year was a shiny Playstation 4 and with it I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the LEGO Dimensions Starter Kit. This is LEGO’s rival to the ever popular Skylanders games, one that combines the joy of building LEGO models with a cute kid-friendly platform game.

The box contains a copy of the game along with the pieces necessary to build the portal, three minifigures (Wyldstyle, Gandalf and Batman) and a 3-in-1 Batmobile. It also has a handful of accessories for the figures and four toy tags – the important pieces of kit that allow the Toy Pad to recognise your figures.

Here’s a closer look at the construction of the portal:

AT-ST Walker

Suggested Age: 8-14
Pieces: 449
Casual Build Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes
Dimensions: Over 9″ x 6″ x 5″
Brand: Star Wars

Now that I’ve gotten all of my smaller kits out of the way, it’s time to look at the big sets that I was given for Christmas. As you may have noticed, I am a huge fan of Star Wars but it’s not the spaceships that I love the best. It’s the Walkers that hold the most nostalgia for me. Amongst the most iconic of these is the two-legged All Terrain Scout Transport, or AT-ST. This vehicle was first seen in The Empire Strikes Back, although the version in this kit is based on the one that appears in the more recent Rogue One.

The kit is medium sized and contains all the pieces necessary to build the AT-ST. On top of this, it comes with an assortment of hand-held weaponry and three minifigures – Baze Malbus, an AT-ST driver and a Rebel Trooper.

Here’s a closer look at the box contents, as well as some photos of the building process:

Lone Ranger’s Pump Car

Suggested Age: 6-12
Pieces: 24
Casual Build Time: 5 minutes
Brand: The Lone Ranger

Don’t worry, this is going to be my last polybag review. For now.

As you might be able to tell, this kit is based around the 2013 Disney adaptation of The Lone Ranger. It was first released in the UK in the same year as part of an offer with the Daily Mail. The set is very small, containing the pieces to make the pump car and minifig of Lone Ranger. It also comes with a pistol accessory.

Here’s what came inside the bag:
