Imperial Assault Hovertank

Suggested Age: 7-12
Pieces: 385
Casual Build Time: 1 hour
Dimensions: over 3″ x 7″ x 5″
Brand: Star Wars

It’s been a while since I last looked at one of my beloved Star Wars kits, so let’s take a look at one of the sets that came out last Christmas to coincide with the release of Rogue One. To give it’s full name, this kit’s design is based around the TX-225 GAVw “Occupier” combat assault tank. Unlike my previous Star Wars build – the Y-Wing – this set was first introduced in Rogue One and so this also the first time it’s been made available in LEGO form.

The set is pretty straightforward, providing all of the necessary pieces to build the tank and a small weapon chest. It also comes with three minifigures – Chirrut Îmwe and two Imperial Hovertank Pilots. It also comes with a variety of weapons, including a selection of blasters, a crossbow and a staff.

Here are some more photos of what came in the box:

4×4 Off Roader

Suggested Age: 5-12
Pieces: 176
Casual Build Time: 30 minutes
Dimensions: 4×4 – over 3″ x 5″ x 2″ / Tool wagon – over 1″ x 1″ x under 1″

Brand: LEGO City

This kit has recently been discontinued by LEGO, so I managed to snap up one very cheaply in a Sainsbury’s after-Christmas sale. It forms part of LEGO City’s range of racing cars, though its sturdy vehicle makes it stand out from a lot of the other sets in this range.

This small set includes all the pieces necessary to make the 4×4, along with a few extra accessories including a barrel of gasoline, a sand bar, and a tool wagon. It also comes with two minifigures – the driver and a mechanic.

Here’s a closer look at what came inside the box:

London Bus

Suggested Age: 7+
Pieces: 118
Casual Build Time: 15 minutes
Dimensions: over 2″ x 4″ x 1″
Brand: LEGO Creator

This review is likely to be pretty short, but it features another special set. The London Bus is a UK exclusive kit that was originally released as a promotion alongside the hugely impressive LEGO Big Ben. Now, it’s available to purchase only in the UK stores. I was lucky enough to snag mine when I checked out London’s new Leicester Square store back in January.

There isn’t an awful lot to really talk about with this kit, as all it includes are the pieces required to make the bus. There are no minifigures included, and the finer details are all provided by use of stickers.

Here’s a closer look at what came in the box:

Palace Cinema

Suggested Age: 16+
Pieces: 2,194
Casual Build Time: 9.5 hours
Dimensions: Palace Cinema: 15″ x 10″ x 10″ / Limousine: 1.6″ x 5.9″ x 1.9″
Brand: LEGO Creator

Sorry it’s taken me so long to get around to posting this review – life is hectic! Anyhow, the Palace Cinema kit was a bit of a special kit for me and is certainly way more elaborate than the ones that I usually buy for myself. Although I prefer building vehicles, I’ve admired this set for a long time and was very pleased to receive one for my 30th birthday!

The set is inspired by Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and forms part of LEGO’s Modular Buildings series. It comes with all the pieces required to build the cinema and limousine, as well as a number of accessories and six minifigures – a child actress, a chauffeur, a female guest, a male guest, a photographer, and a cinema worker.

This is going to be a very photo-heavy review, so read on if you’d like to take a closer look inside this beautiful set!

Today’s review is a bit special. In celebration of the new LEGO Batman movie, my sister, partner and myself each purchased a different one of the tie-in kits and are sharing this blog space to tell you what we thought!

The sets all feature vehicles which appear in the movie and vary in size and price. The cheapest set is Catwoman Catcycle Chase, which includes the pieces to build a small street scene, the Catcycle, various accessories, and three minifigures: Batgirl, Robin and Catwoman.

The second largest of the sets is The Penguin Arctic Roller. This set is a lot more hefty, containing the necessary pieces to build the car and a small jet ski. It also comes with an umbrella and batarang accessories, and two minifigures: Batman and the Penguin.

The final set is The Joker Notorious Lowrider. This set simply contains the pieces necessary to build the car. It also comes with a variety of accessories and three minifigures: Batgirl, the Joker and Harley Quinn.

More details and photographs under the cut!
