When I saw this kit in Langleys, I just couldn’t resist. I’m not sure what inspired this little LEGO set but it is such an amusing idea for a small kit! This is the first set I’ve bought from the LEGO City Police range. I debated buying one of their starter sets first but this just looked a lot more fun!
The kit contains the pieces necessary to build a Police Water Scooter, as well as two minifigures, a tire, an oar and a pair of handcuffs. Since there isn’t much more to this set, let’s take a little look at what came in the box:
For a cheap set, this certainly felt as though it was decent value for money. It was very simple and quick to put together, making it an excellent first kit or stocking filler for any budding master builder. The hardest part was actually getting the prisoner to hold the oar but after a few attempts, I managed to adjust his hands to the correct angle to grip it.
The most substantial part of the set was the Police Water Scooter, as this is the only bit that required real building. For a little boat, it actually doesn’t look half bad. I like the way that its rear light is on an angle and the fact that the decal on the front is printed on, so I didn’t have to mess around with any stickers. It does have a lack of moving parts but it’s at least easy to sit the minifigure inside it.
However, it’s the little prisoner than really makes this kit worthwhile. I must say again that the novelty of the escapee and his tire-raft is just fantastic. I love the detail of his angry eyebrows and handlebar mustache too as it gives him great character.
The kit has some decent scope for imaginative play, giving both the police man and the prisoner, a “vehicle” for each and the means to apprehend him. It’s also a fun set for display as it’s quite unique and makes a decent talking point for any collection.
All in all, it’s a fun set and good value for money. There’s really nothing more to say. I will certainly have to check out more from this range in the future.
